I'm far from the first person to write about this, but it pisses me off. The comic above doesn't emulate my feelings toward seeing that message, but it's funny nonetheless. In my eyes, the only people who lose are the people who want to leave comments, but can't, and as a result, the writers who lose satisfaction when they see less people commenting. I suppose this affects people with poorer vision, but I have 20/15 vision, and I still mess them up.

As you can see in the above picture with the kitty captcha, they're becoming even more creative, which again, is not a good thing for us. The captcha which bested me, leading me to write this, wasn't anything special but it annoyed me and is shown below. I vow that I will never include captchas here on Will and Beyond.

I have a system where when a comment comes up, I can select part of the text, and add that to my spam filter, then any future comments which contain that string will be deleted. I'm careful to make sure and only mark really spammy phrases, that no commenter would ever write. It's a little extra work, but it ensures that nobody is turned away by these evil Captchas.
Godspeed.
