Manhattan Hide and Go Seek

The game works as follows. Split into teams of three of four. Ideally you'll have around 4 or 5 teams. Adjust teams sizes and number of teams depending on how many people you have. All teams will start in one place, while one team leaves somewhere to hide, within agreed upon boundaries. Every 30 minutes a clue will be sent out as to their location. Every ten minutes a team can ask one yes or no question. First team to find them wins, then you regroup, and the winning team leaves to hide. So much fun.

The Great Manhattan Perimeter Walk 2
posted 05/25/08 @ 10:12PM
For the second year in a row, we walked around the entire perimeter of Manhattan. I dragged Ilana and Amanuel with from DC onto a Chinatown bus to New York, and then we stayed on Roosevelt Island. Then we headed out to West 42nd, the starting point. The full starting cast: Amanuel, Andrew, Beck, Dustin, Ilana, Jared, Joe, Leanne, Peter, and Shashi. Of those, everyone but Andrew, Ilana and Leanne finished the whole thing. We had some people join throughout the walk as well. Fun times. Painful times.

Iron Chef College Edition

Before I moved off of Roosevelt Island, I had a ton of leftover food. What to do with it? Let's put it all in a pile, then play Iron Chef! We didn't have a "secret ingredient" that you had to use in all of your dishes, the idea was to just get rid of food. Since I was a college student, the food consisted mostly of things like ramen, macaroni and cheese, and soup. Dianna and I both made 4 dishes, then rated each other based on taste and appearance. She ended up winning.

The next day we were in Key West, where we tried various key lime flavored things and went nature kayaking. It was so much fun. Come inside and be jealous.

Ricks Birthday 2007

Rick made it another birthday this year, so we celebrated his survival. Some festivities happened throughout the week, but since I was in DC taking finals, I will not be going into those events. I got there on Saturday morning (after taking a 3:30am Chinatown bus), and we went paintballing in Long Island City. It was a lot of fun. It definitely wasn't well run, since there were 14 year olds running it, but it was a good time anyway. We went back to Rick's place, and played with a pinata.

When I lived on Roosevelt Island, the apartment was really nice. Well it was nice when it was clean. The only complaint I can really make is about the floors. They really sucked. You wonder how floors can suck? Well, when they do not stay on the ground, that is how you know. Here are some pictures of how they would get when it was really humid outside. We would have to have maintenance come in (and they took their sweet time) and tear out the floors and put in new ones. On the plus side, we would get new, clean floors, but it was not worth the trouble.

There are a bunch of pictures of us just standing around outside, which is fairly representative of what we do in Portland... Also there are some from the dinner party Steph had, which was fun times. I am insisting she has another this winter.

The first trip I lost money, and the second I made money. Overall I've made more than I lost. Unfortunately pictures aren't allowed in the gaming areas, but the whole casino is pretty cool, so it works out.

The 1st Annual Great Manhattan Perimeter Walk. 12 Started. 5 Finished. Plus some visitors who stopped by for parts in the middle. Come inside to find out who. 32 miles in 16 hours. You don't get more hardcore than this. Everyone who participated did great. Even those who only came for a "small" portion of it. Nobody did less than 8 miles, which is a hefty chunk of walking. Give yourselves a big round of applause. And don't forget to start training for next year. Now that we've done it once, the second time will go easier. Not that this time had too many kinks, but you can always improve. Maybe we can do it in less time too? Regardless, this album has the most pictures out of any before it in Will and Beyond history.

The second annual New York City Pillow Fight in Union Square! Adam, Chris, Dianna, Dustin, Jailu, Jared, Jed, Lima, Richard, Rick, Shashi, Valerie and I met up in Union Square for pillow thwomping madness! It was tons of fun, aside from when I lost my pillow. Luckily I found another one there and was able to use it for the rest of the fight, but too bad I don't trust sleeping on it. Thanks to Dianna for taking most of these pictures.

Dianna's parents took her and I out to the New York Science Center in Corona Park by Flushing. It was fun; learned some science, tooks lots of pictures, and got to touch lots of stuff. That's why science museums are cooler than regular museums. But then again, lots of little kids go to science museums and like to touch stuff, both before and after putting their hands in their mouths and other gross places.

Dianna and I decided to head to Coney Island to see some sea life. Then once we got there, it occured to us that since it's a New York beach, all of the creatures would probably be mutated with all kinds of extra limbs and mind control powers. Seeing as we wanted our thoughts to stay just where they were, we conveniently found that the New York Aquarium was very nearby, so we took a little walk and ended up there. Lots of fun, scary animals, cute animals, and of course lots of pictures.

The Micahs' Visit

After I went a couple hundred miles out of my way to go visits the Micahs up in Washington, they were left with little choice other than to go a couple thousand miles and come visit me. We had a good time, which focused on the most important aspect of life - eating. Come take a look at our crazy hijinx as we travel through the city. We did do things other than eating of course, and you'll see many of them inside.

When the Micahs came to visit they wanted to go a museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, seemed like the place to go. Look inside and you'll see plenty of art, and even more fun; interactive art. This is definitely one of my favorite museums, so if you ever feel like going, give me a call, because I'll probably want to join you. For now, join me, and look at some pictures.

For my second summer during college, I chose to stay at NYU and live in the city for the majority of it. I decided that something should take up my whole life for that period of time. What better to do than take Organic Chemistry over the summer? I couldn't think of anything better to do, so that's what I did. Well I still managed to have some free time, and you'll see that if you take a look at these pictures.

Throughout the summer starting sometime in June, New York City Parks and Recreation shows older movies in Bryant Park once a week. Maybe it's on Wednesdays? I forget exactly. Nonetheless, some of us went there to go see Alfred Hitchcock's 'Suspicion' with Cary Grant. I enjoyed it, and look forward to seeing more movies in upcoming summers. Just get there early and bring a blanket and some stuff to do to pass the time til the movie.

I think the prefix mini- in minigolf is rather degrading. I would say it's in fact much better than real golf. If it was up to me I would have minigolf be renamed to megagolf. From now on, that is what we will be calling it from now on - tell your friends. If you ever take a break from going out and spreading the word about megagolf, you should come take a look at these pictures from the time that Dianna, Leper Andrew, and I went out to Randall's Island to play a couple rounds.

Lychee jelly is definitely one of the best things about Flushing. It's such a great invention, probably one of China's best. It's a chunk of lychee fruit suspended inside a piece of jelly in a small container. You just peel off the top layer of plastic, careful not to spill any of the precious juice, then you just suck the jelly into your mouth. It is FANTASTIC. Look inside for picture of me revelling in all of its glory.

Apartment Tour

After enduring the cramped living conditions of the 26th Street dorm at NYU, we decided it was time for a change - we had to leave housing. Unfortunately I had finals 'til really late, so I couldn't be too involved in the apartment searching, however Andrew, Yan and Beck were more free so they took charge. After a couple let downs, they showed me this place on Roosevelt Island. Great apartment as you'll soon see. Nice and big. A little bit farther from campus than the ideal, but it's not all that bad.

I've gone several times since, and wow... This trip was devoted to buying furniture for our new apartment. Here you'll me and the lovely Dianna modelling some furniture, some of which we ended up buying. If anyone ever feels like going to IKEA on some weekend, there's a bus that goes there free from Port Authority, and unless I have plans, I am always down for a trip out there.

The Gates

Some artist decided to sponsor putting up a ton of 'Gates' around Central Park, which consisted of two PVC pipes connected by orange fabric stuff. It was really popular, because it was such a big project. There were 'Gates' all over the whole park. Keep in mind this is the largest park within a city in the United States. Ana wanted to come down and see it, so Rachel came down to see Ana, and I wanted to see the Gates as well, so it worked out for everyone. Dianna accompanied me, and a couple of friends of Ana came with her.

Jed put on a bathroom cleaning contest that took place at Central Park. We had three people, so we first had a mini-contest to eliminate one person from having to risk cleaning the bathroom, then two people were team captains... Wait. This sounds familiar for some reason. Oh, now I remember, Jed shamelessly stole my idea! Heh, well this time the game was Ultimate Frisbee, and not Capture the Flag, and the mini-contest was frisbee golf. I won that, so it was left to the other two to battle out to see who had to clean the bathroom. Come take a look and find out for yourself.

It's that time of year again where we all gather around Shashi and celebrate the day of his birth. Seeing as Shashi doesn't eat red meat, someone had the idea of going to a vegetarian restaurant. This worked out... interestingly. Some food was good, some food was less than good. It wasn't a horrific experience, but it's a good thing to joke about whenever anything vegetarian related is mentioned. Unfortunately, it's a good reference to make whenever anybody ever mentions menus or shaking hands. I think it was from this point on that my rock, paper, scissors skills were cursed.

Before you look inside, play a game, take all the people who went: Andrew, Yan, Mike, Beck, Shashi, Dianna, Nina and I, and try and guess who won. The scores are inside so you'll see.

Our second Thanksgiving here on the east coast. Same crowd as last time, plus a few new attendees. People including Peter, Evan, Ken, and Rachel. Instead of taking place in New York, we went to Boston this year, and visited Steph's college. The food was good like usual, except this time there were more people to eat it. The downside to the greater number of people and it not taking place in my dorm was that I wasn't able to eat all of the leftovers for the next week following.

For one of my bathroom cleaning contests, I put together a game of Capture the Flag which took place in Central Park. First off we had a little mini-contest consisting of a hallway long jump, which Jed won, so he was exempt from being at risk of cleaning the bathroom. Then there were Andrew and Yan left to be team captains. Whichever team lost, their captain was to clean the bathroom. It was a very dramatic game, with the lives of hundreds of civilians on the line with every throw. Look at these pictures, and your life may too be changed forever.

The first picture album posted here on Will and Beyond in its new form. Dianna, Steve, Vivian and I trekked out to Rockefeller Center, to see the biggest Christmas Tree in the country (I think?) being lit up in the middle of Manhattan. Let me tell you, New York gets cold and all, but that coldness is increased tenfold when you're doing nothing but standing there. It was a fun time though in retrospect, and I think I'm starting to feel my toes about now. I learned never to do this again! Until the next year...
