Oodles of Comment Spam

will posted 11/03/08 @ 11:41AM EST

I still haven't dealt with the comment problem I'm having. I'll get to that this week hopefully. In the meantime, I've just been dealing with everything manually.

In about 84 hours, Will and Beyond received 688 comments. One of them was actually not spam, and I caught that one. What types of comments are these? Here's a Wordle of their content:

Spam Versus Comments

will posted 10/22/08 @ 12:19AM EST

Some of you might have noticed that commenting on my posts has been a little screwy recently; allow me to explain.

Prior, my system worked well; it works as follows. A comment is posted by someone, and it appears instantly. It then appears on my control panel, and I can flag it to keep or delete. Once I manually approve the comment, that's when any notifications go through. Or, I can add a spam string to my list of filters. When I do this, I add a string such as one of the following:

dreaminteen.com
dreamkoska.com
e-junkie.com
easymedics.com
email invitation virus
escortrussia.info
ezo.drzp.org
files.lartrk.webnode.com
find cheap hotel
floridaforeclosureassistance.com
forex.blogquarters.com
free blonde video clip
free gay asian porn

(Hmm I wonder how many visitors will arrive due to those search terms appearing on this page...)

Uploaded file

Then, all comments which haven't been flagged as approved, as well as all comments posted in the future are scanned against my list of spam strings. If a comment finds a match it's automatically deleted.

At some point, something went wrong, and all posts were being marked as spam and were being deleted. I've temporarily disabled spam filtering, but this requires going through hundreds of spam comments a day, checking if any real comments have been posted. This is tedious, and usually disappointing, since not many comments are really posted.

As a result, I need to revamp the system. My plan to improve the system involves three steps:

1) I'll rewrite the code which checks for string matches. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I'll take another stab at it.

2) Instead of having comments be deleted, I'll have them flagged as spam; they won't appear on the site, but they'll still be in my database 'til I approve their deletion.

3) Once I approve a comment, the email address of that commenter will be logged, and any future comments posted with that email address will be approved, and won't be subject to the spam filter.

Uploaded file

I'll get to that sometime, maybe this week, maybe not. If anyone has any other suggestions for developing this system, let me know. And nobody dare suggest using captchas; I hate Captchas.

More Guest Posts

will posted 08/13/08 @ 11:38AM EST

I mentioned previously that I was going to being running some guest posts, where I swap a weekly post with some other site. Richard from Table Salt Games has now written two posts here on Will and Beyond, as I have on his site, here and here.

Uploaded file

The newest addition to this lineup is Jeff from Battlemouth. Richard has been posting on Fridays, and you can expect to see Jeff's posts on Sundays. I put up my first post at Battlemouth today, Unifying Blog Participation. I'm still up for doing more post swapping; if anyone's interested, contact me.

About Will and Beyond and Statistics

will posted 08/04/08 @ 10:20PM EST

I came across an article posted on ProBlogger, and I decided to rewrite my about page. I didn't change the picture, which I'll do at some point, but I rewrote all the text from scratch.

Uploaded file

I'm particularly proud of the statistics section. You can see a snapshot of what it looked like when I posted this, but those are dynamic numbers, so they will change over time.

Guest Posts

will posted 08/01/08 @ 12:13PM EST

I setup an arrangement with Richard from Table Salt Games to have us trade posts once a week; he'll post here and I'll post there. I made my first post this morning, R.I.P. Scrabulous.

Uploaded file

Trading posts seems to me to the be the most beneficial way of doing guest posts, for both parties. In addition to increasing the amount of backlinks, you also expose a new site to your content and writing style. In respect to dealing with guest posts, it seems to me that having posts about subjects far and wide is advantageous here on Will and Beyond. This allows me to accept pretty much any type of guest post, but since I don't specialize in writing on one specific topic, it also allows me to write about whatever the other site wants, without it being any trouble.

Uploaded file

Our arrangement is pretty simple; he runs a site about gaming, so he's going to be making gaming posts here, and since I already writing posts about games, it's easy for me to make a post over there, that I might have just made here anyway.

If anyone is interested in swapping posts, let me know and we can try and work something out.

Google vs. Cuil: The Definitive Comparison

will posted 07/28/08 @ 4:15PM EST

There's a very simple way to determine which is a better search engine. Let's Google for "will and beyond" (without quotes).

Uploaded file

Hmm, it comes up as the first result! That's a good sign. Now let's Cuil (that's not a verb yet...) "will and beyond". (Again, without quotes.)

Uploaded file

Why didn't I show the screenshot of the results? Oh, because, I don't show up within the first 15 pages. In fact, Bed Bath & Beyond (one of the places I plagiarized from) didn't even show up 'til page 13. I refuse to go past page 15, because of how much I have to refresh due to the error messages coming up due to high server load.

Let's try "will and beyond" with quotes. The same results... quotes seem to have no effect.

Winner: Google

Multiple RSS Feeds

will posted 07/14/08 @ 10:21AM EST

When Will and Beyond was created, it was just a place for me to put my pictures online. Over time it has evolved into more than that. As a result, not every reader here may know me personally. However, I still post my pictures here, at the time of this posting, there are 110 albums, which contain 2240 pictures.

If you don't know me, you probably have little to no interest of pictures of me and my friends. As a result there are now two RSS feeds. If you click on the RSS icon in Firefox (well, any browser that supports grabbing RSS feeds), you will see two options, Will and Beyond, and Will and Beyond - All Items.

Uploaded file

Will and Beyond - All Items: Everything posted here on Will and Beyond
Will and Beyond: The above, minus photo albums.

The feed you are subscribed to will still work, however if you want to switch to the more 'public' feed, you will need to do that yourself. The feed URL is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/willandbeyondpublic

As you can see, I switched to FeedBurner. If you're subscribed to the feed hosted here on Will and Beyond, that's fine. I only switched so I could easily track how many subscribers I had. If you are going to remain subscribed to the all posts feed, but you're compelled to use my FeedBurner feed URL instead, so that I can see a bigger number, its URL is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/WillAndBeyond

Improved Comments

will posted 07/10/08 @ 4:08PM EST

Made a few improvements on my commenting system.

1. Aesthetics
2. Gravatars
3. Nested replies

All of this can be seen in the image below. I explain each of them below that.

Uploaded file

1. Aesthetics
Comments are easier to read when they're in their own box, somewhat contrasting the rest of the page. So I think. I decided this from looking at David Walsh's site.

2. Gravatars
Images spruce things up, including images. I thought about assigning random images for comments. Then, I discovered Gravatars when I was looking at the comment section of The Exploding Barrel. If you go to the Gravatar website and register email addresses, then your avatar will appear on websites that support Gravatars whenever you use that registered email.

I tried to find some list of site that support Gravatars, but I couldn't. The three sites that I frequent which support them are:

The Exploding Barrel
Lamentations on Chemistry
Will and Beyond

That last one's a real winner.

3. Nested replies
Comments often turn into discussions. It's possible to have a discussion in comments without nesting, but it's harder to read. On the other hand, I think nesting too deep also gets out of hand, so I just allow one level of nesting.

That's it for now in the land of Will and Beyond, Enjoy.

Lack of Focus, Steady Readers, and Care

will posted 07/08/08 @ 4:06PM EST

Will and Beyond, what's your problem? Well, it starts with a lack of focus. This comes from the purpose of the site. What purpose? Exactly. I just write about whatever I want, which varies from science, to video games, to events in which I participate, to file sharing.

Uploaded file

This leads to a lack of steady readers. People read sites which are tuned to their interests. In order for someone to want to be a regular reader here on Will and Beyond, whether it be just someone who checks the site on a regular basis, or someone who subscribes via RSS, they're going to have to have all of my same interests. This narrows my pool to... well, not many.

On the plus side, since I'm not catering to any audience, I can continue to write about whatever I feel; and the cycle continues. Do I care? A little bit; I would like to have people reading here, but do I care enough to change based on that? Nope.

Blog

will posted 06/30/08 @ 10:30AM EST

I'm not sure what prompted this, but last night I got to thinking about how I always refer to this as my website, and never a blog. I could refer to it as such if I wanted to. I write posts about whatever I feel like, tag them, let people comment on them; if this wasn't my site it would sound like a blog to me.

Uploaded file

I think it's because of all the time I put into actually creating the site, and writing the code. That definitely shadows the amount of time I've spent writing real content, and that doesn't sound very bloggy to me. Does it matter at all? Of course not, just in my head.

If I search Will and Beyond, I only get 10 results (this would be the 11th). I read through those, and they consist of two things, 1) me referring to other blogs, and 2) the Will and Beyond LiveBlogging system.

It's crazy to think how popular the term has become though. The term is derived from web log. Here are some Google search stats:

blog - 3,520,000,000 results found
weblog - 173,000,000 results found
"web log" - 18,000,000 results found

That's all I really had to say.

Tag Clouds and Storms

will posted 06/26/08 @ 12:39PM EST

Since I've introduced tags, I've been working on a way to display them on the site they way that I want. At first I just had a list of selected tags on the right, with links to them. Pretty boring.

What you see below (and on the right navigation panel) is what I've decided on. As you can see on the left, there is your basic tag cloud, where there are most posts with a tag, the bigger it will appear. Will and Beyond appears white because that's what the mouse is currently hovering over. The second and third panels area little more chaotic, and I'm calling them tag storm clouds, or tag storms. The sizing works the same way, but in my code, I just select what percentage of the tags to show (I have it on 60% right now), and it will randomize 60% of the tags and display them randomly throughout the column.

Tag Styles

It's set so half the time a tag cloud will appear, and the rest of the time you'll see the tag storm. I've always seen tag clouds, and liked the idea, but I wanted more than that. I thought up the idea of a tag storm cloud. It would just be a lot more chaotic. Originally, it was going to be even more chaotic, with the tags overlapping each other, but I didn't like how it turned out, so I cleaned it up a bit to get what you see here.

Hit refresh a couple times to see it in action, then let me know what you think. I'll post the code for this later, if anyone's interested, and I'm looking into possibly developing it as a Wordpress widget.

Hahaha, nonsense. They went through a series of questions, and somehow ended up with this number. I make something like $10/year from Google Ads. Anyway, I discovered Technorati, and in order for my to 'claim my site', I needed to include a link within a post, so here is my Technorati Profile.

Search and Archives Development

will posted 06/12/08 @ 10:47AM EST

Over time I've been converting things from their static HTML pages to entries in databases which are displayed with PHP. As of now, every video, photo album and news post has been moved into the databases. This makes things more dynamic and I can more easily adjust layout/design, and I can do more and more from within my browser. As my own personal CMS has been developing, I have to edit code and FTP less and less when I'm just publishing content.

Archived posts are now automatically managed. Instead of seeing a long list at the bottom of the right navigation, there is just a link to the archives. Managing the archives was always a tedious process of copying and pasting; I will not miss that task.

Uploaded file

Search was implemented a while back, but now since everything is in the database, it is all searchable, not just newer content. All news posts, photo album descriptions, and video descriptions will be present in the search results. Search results are also just shown 20 at a time. Some words that I've tested searching for return 200+ results, and when I searched for the letter 'a', I got back 468 results. Having these all load on one screen (as they did previously) is a bit ridiculous.

That's it for now; if you have any suggestions on site improvements, contact me, or let me know in the comments.

Followup Comments

will posted 05/23/08 @ 4:46PM EST

Comments are nice, but I hate it when you leave a comment asking a question, and then I forget to go back and check later. It's nice when sites give you the option to sign up for notification of follow up comments. You've been able to comment on posts for quite some time now. However, now you can also receive email notification of comments. When you leave a comment, just put in your email, and future comments (once they've been verified to be not spam) will be emailed to you, along with a link to the comment.

Uploaded file

Just another one of those things I've been meaning to setup for Will and Beyond for a while. This way people can hold conversations and respond to questions. That's it for now; back to chemistry.

12:22AM: randomguy132: @RFX00 Yes, I am. It is complete!
12:24AM: RFX00: Apparently my Twitter audience, with all the visitors to Will and Beyond, has now nearly doubled!

What you see above is what the result of the Will and Beyond liveblogging system is. It starts of with me activating liveblogging via my control panel on Will and Beyond. I then can add Twitter users - from that time on, any updates that users make will be shown on Will and Beyond. I can add users at anytime throughout. Then whenever the event is over I click terminate and the post is finalized, ignoring future twitter updates.

I wanted to have this in place by the time I do the 2nd Annual Great Manhattan Perimeter Walk (last year's is here), which occurs this Saturday, May 17th.

Search and Cleanup

will posted 03/11/08 @ 10:53PM EST

If you look over on the right, you'll notice that it's cleaner than it used to be. The articles button, a couple brilliant buttons, the chatterbox, and the list of archived pages are all gone. The articles button is gone because articles and news have merged into one generic category - the differences that once existed between them had dwindled down to nearly nothing. The chatterbox was slowing down the loading of the page, and it wasn't that great. I'm going to write my own someday soon, in the meantime just use the comments feature - all new pages, and many old, have them. As for the archives - nobody used them. It's shrunk down into a single link, which I'll work on more later.

Search

A long missing feature has finally arrived: search. Before I converted the site to PHP it was never really possible for me to create my own. It has now reached the point where it's possible, so here it is. It's working moderately well for now. It has some restrictions, based on the current setup of the site, but I'm working on expanding it. These are listed in a message which you receive once you input a search. I'm not going to list them here, because they are evolving, and you can see the current limits whenever you do a search. Aside from the restrictions, there are quite a few bugs in it, but give it time.

Plagiarism and Beyond

The name Will and Beyond is clearly plagiarized. I must have stolen the name from somewhere, but where? I'll let you decide.

Bed Bath and Beyond (The Obvious Choice)
Blogging and Beyond
Marathon and Beyond
Birth and Beyond
Scrubs and Beyond (Unfortunately, not about the TV Show)
Michael Jordan, Above and Beyond

By the way, if you do a Google search for "and beyond", Will and Beyond doesn't show up until #109. That makes me kind of sad actually...

tag

Tags are here. If you look at the bottom of this post, (assuming you're looking at the direct link, not the front page) you'll see that it says this post is tagged as 'will and beyond'. If you click on 'will and beyond', you can see other posts that have been tagged as such. This is obviously not an original idea, but it's just another feature that I'm working in. I'm slowly building this into a fully functional CMS (content management system) from PHP.

That's about it for now. As of now, only recent news, recent photo albums, all videos, and all articles can be tagged. I haven't gone through and tagged everything yet, but I spent a little while going through old stuff and doing some tagging.

Site Bugginess Update

will posted 01/04/08 @ 7:18PM EST

Hey everyone. Just letting you know that you might find the site to be a little buggy. I've been working on some features that help with updating from my end (backend features, if you will). I don't have the internet at my house, so while I was working on the coding, I wasn't able to upload pages as I go to test them. As a result I had to write larger sections of code than usual without uploading them. This means that it takes quite a bit of time to filter out all the little syntax problems which I would normally conquer little by little. Please let me know by email, chatterbox, or in a comment if you see anything I should fix. Suggestions are welcome as well.

I doubt you'll see any updates in the next week, since I leave for the Bahamas on Sunday night, and I return to DC on Friday. I'm able to post these 'news' updates from my phone, so you may see one or two, but we'll see.

Hope you all had a good New Year's, and see you all again soon.

Few Minor Site Updates

will posted 12/03/07 @ 10:38AM EST

Okay, so hopefully you should now be able to comment on news posts. (Which means they have my face in the upper left of the post, and they aren't an article. So this is anything that isn't photos, articles, or videos.)

Additionally, the site was starting to get a ton of spam. See Wikipedia for more info. This has been at least temporarily fixed. Now when you comment, you have to say what year it currently is. If eventually the spammers break that complex code, I'll evolve it, but it's held it off for now. I was getting about 20 spam comments a day, and now I'm getting 0.

Finals are coming up, but it actually comes as a relief compared to the amount of work I had in the weeks before finals. I went to Atlantic City on Saturday with New York people, that was a bunch of fun. Lost money, but that's okay. That's it for now.

More Spam Fighting

will posted 10/31/07 @ 6:53PM EST

I've been putting up content here and there, but I haven't actually been working on the site code-wise at all recently. I have lots of plans, but I've been low on time. I'll do a little bit of work on it this weekend. I did about 5 minutes working of tweaking today to the comments, because spam was getting past my filters. Damn spammers getting trickier. I'm sure more will get through eventually and I'll have to tweak it some more, but... whatcha gonna do.

October Update

will posted 10/01/07 @ 7:00PM EST

Well, the frontpage is now in PHP. What does this mean for you? Well, not too much. Whenever I post pictures, videos, or articles, they will automatically appear here, and at the bottom of the page you will see "[Comments: x]" where x is the number of comments there are on it. Clicking that will take you directly to comments for that page. You can now comment on photo albums as well, and there is a new main album page for each set of photos. This only applies to new pictures however.

New features will start rolling out once I finish converting the rest of the site to PHP, which will be pretty soon. I've gotten most of the big stuff out of the way, now I just need to go through and convert some of the little stuff as well as improve little things here and there.

I'll post some pictures later tonight so you can see what I mean by the stuff above, and maybe an article later today if I can get something done.

Comments, PHP, and Articles

will posted 09/11/07 @ 10:00PM EST

Major changes are in progress here at Will and Beyond. Over the weekend, I read PHP/MySQL for Dummies. Then I did a bunch more online research and through it all, taught myself PHP/MySQL. Not too much is implemented yet, but more is on its way.

For now, articles are able to be commented on. Also, I added an Articles button/page over there on the right. Comments will appear at the bottom of the page. I'm not sure where else I'm going to put the comments in, I'll figure it out. Probably on the videos as well. If you have any suggestions at all, put there on any of the article pages in a comment, or use the chatterbox on the right.

Grad school is going fine; not too much work yet, and my schedule's very managable. Well, that's it for now.

How to Make Will and Beyond

will posted 09/06/07 @ 12:00PM EST

I've often been asked how I make Will and Beyond. While I enjoy talking about it, it will be nice to have somewhere to point them for a more in depth answer. 99% of it is just hand coded, but I will elaborate. The following tools/services are ranked in order of usage/importance.

Notepad
http://www.notepad.org/
This absolutely the most important tool involved in the process. With this, I code the XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and XML. Sure, there are lots of things I could do rather than handcoding. I could use a program like FrontPage or Dreamweaver, or even a blogging tool like Wordpress. But, a major reason I do this is because I like the coding. To be honest, I don't always have the best content, and this also isn't one of those blogs that talks about my feelings all the time. A lot of this is cause I like to play around with code. I don't constantly change my code; a lot of the time it's just copying and pasting stuff I've already done into new places, and adding little code here and there throughout my new page, but I still like it.

Notepad

Dreamhost
http://www.dreamhost.com/
This may be strange that it's 2nd instead of 1st, but no matter where I hosted my site I'd use Notepad. However, I really like Dreamhost. It's pretty affordable hosting, and I get a toooooon of space. More than I would ever use. Same with bandwidth. Lots of great features, I have nothing bad to say about them at all. By the way, if you sign up using the code WILLANDBEYOND30, you get $30 off when you sign up for a year of hosting. Plus it helps me out too.

Dreamhost

FlashFXP
http://www.inicom.net/pages/en.ffxp-home.php
This isn't super vital, there are plenty of FTP tools out there, but I really like this one, it's very sleek and I've become very comfortable with it. I also use this same program to connect to my XBox, so it's convenient. It's not free, and there are free alternatives, but it's what I like.

FlashFXP

Powertoys Image Resizer
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Just a simple add-on for Windows XP that allows simple resizing of pictures. I resize all of my photos to 640x480 for easy web consumption. I have the full resolution pictures available as a link from the picture page. This is also used to create the thumbnails on the picture page.

Allok Video to 3GP Converter
http://www.alloksoft.com/3gpconverter.htm
This is how I present to you the videos in the media section in QuickTime format, which is what I have found to be the best way to spread them. I originally tried Windows Media format, since I edit the videos in Windows Movie Maker, but Windows and Mozilla aren't the best of friends. Windows needs to learn to play nice.

Windows Movie Maker
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
Definitely not the best tool, but it is one of the simplest, and it comes pre-installed with Windows XP, and it gets the job done, so I use it.

Easy GIF Animator
http://www.download.com/3000-2186_4-10716636.html
I use it for similar reasons to Windows Movie Maker. It's very simple to use, and it does exactly what I want. It's not a free program, but it simplifies the process and works well.

Adobe Photoshop
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/index.html
Definitely not the cheapest program, but if you're a student, odds are your school computers have it. Most of my stuff could be done with simpler programs, but I'm used to it. In terms of Photoshop skills, I'm most proud of my logo. The graphics for the site layout, albeit simple, were designed with Photoshop.

Photoshop

Chatterbox
http://chatter.flooble.com/
Only really have to use it once and it's setup. I like the layout better than a lot of the other "shoutbox" alternatives.

Google Adsense
https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/?destination=%2Fadsense%2Fhome
As of the time of this article, I have made $4.48. Total. I started using this in July 2006. As you can see, this doesn't quite cover the cost of hosting, but I don't think it makes the pages look bad or anything, and I can always hope that someday it will earn a little bit more.

Those are all of the tool/services I use that I can think of. The following are resources I consult. I will again rank them in order of usage/importance. I realize the line between tools/services and resources is pretty vague, but you have to draw it at some point.

W3C Validation Service
http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_uri+with_options
Having valid means your code is going to work. I realize that a lot of code validation stuff is nitpicky, but in order for browsers to do the best job they can, it's important to have valid code. Plus, W3C telling me I'm valid makes me feel good.

XHTML

RSS Feed Validator
http://feedvalidator.org/
Very similar reasoning to the above link, but this is less important, because my RSS functioning isn't as vital as the rest of my code functioning.

Color Lab
http://www.visibone.com/colorlab/
This is really only important during site design, but it's very helpful if you're doing stuff by hand.

Color Lab

.htaccess Guide
http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml
Knowing how .htaccess/Apache works helps cut down on a lot of archaic HTML techniques, and streamlines certain processes.

Browsershots
http://browsershots.org/
I don't really want to check my site on all sorts of different browsers manually, I just check Firefox and IE myself. For the rest, I have Browsershots take a snapshot of the page using these other browsers.

XHTML Characters

In certain cases like within RSS, you can't always use all the characters you want, but you can always use their character code.

Web Design Postcards

These are just some good tips for web design. I made some changes to the site once I read through these. Helpful.

Brilliant Button Maker

This comes last, cause it's by no means important, but it helped me make the little Will and Beyond brilliant button you see on your left. If you'd like to put the Will and Beyond button on your site, please by all means do. This site inspired me to put down the other buttons you see in the list as well.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, and I will be happy to update this page. I'm also open to suggestions if you have any favorite tools/services/resources.

Links Page Updated

will posted 08/01/07 @ 4:52PM EST

I noticed that the links page was getting some use, so I figured that I would update it. I put up some more webcomics that I started reading, and then threw in some more links in various other categories. I'll start updating again this week. We'll aim for twice a week for now.

Link Page Overhauled

will posted 03/22/07 @ 10:40PM EST

I actually updated the links page a while back, but I forgot to announce it, so there, I've announced it now. This post is mostly dedicated me not wanting to study any more PChem. The link is on the right.

Picture of the Moment Permanently Updated

will posted 03/13/07 @ 5:00PM EST

I realize the title of this post sounds odd. You think to yourself, if this Picture of the Moment is supposed to be new and changing, how is it made permanent? Well I went ahead and wrote a script so that every day a new POTM automatically appears. And I can make a big queue of pictures to go in there.
With this new script brings two changes to the whole concept of the POTM.

1. It's not really the picture of the MOMENT, rather it's the picture of the DAY. But I'm not changing the name.
2. What I've decided to do is have the POTMs be picture which will later appear in albums, but they're picture that I haven't gotten around to organizing/uploading/commenting on yet. So it's like a sneak preview.

That's it for Will and Beyond news at the moment, more updates to come later today. In the meantime, a Will update. It's Spring Break now. I haven't really done much yet, mostly been hanging out, and doing a little (though more than I'd like to) lab stuff here and there. Tomorrow I'm going to Philly to see Evan and Rachel, and I will probably stop by to say hi to Devlin and Vicky as well. Only going to be up there for a day, then I go back to New York, stop by lab for an hour or so, then go to Penn Station to catch a train to DC. I'm gonna go visit Georgetown and see if I'd maybe wanna go to grad school there. Then it's back to the usual flow of things, and then I'll have to decide on a school by April 15th. That's all for now.

WillandBeyond.com is here!

will posted 07/26/05 @ 1:00PM EST

Take a look at the URL in your browser. WillandBeyond.com is here! No huge changes yet, but this means I can do stuff I've wanted to for a while now that I have loads of space. Other than that lots of stuff after some improvements nobody will notice it got a lot easier to update on my end.
But yes, to celebrate, this week will be filled with updates.

Will and Beyond 2.0

will posted 01/03/05 @ 3:06AM EST

Guess what's here? Will and Beyond 2.0 has launched!
That's right, as you can see, i've entirely redesigned the site. Why? Just wasn't doing it for me anymore, and I had time on my hands as it was winter break. What's new? Well other than the new layout and navigation - there's new content as well.

You can see on the right there is a new section called the Picture of the Moment. This section will be updated more than anything else on the site, because I intentionally made it ridiculously easy to update. It will be a picture of just whatever I feel like posting. It will be always changing, and nothing will be archived, so the only way to see them all will be to check the site often. Okay that was another goal in making that section.

Another new section is called Ask Dr. Celestino. This page is self-explanatory once you click on it, so I won't go into it much here. The about page in the upper right hand corner is new as well.

Also instead of going to the right and clicking on which pictures to look at, you now click on the picture button on the right and then from there click on which pictures. That both saves space and lets me put cool thumbnail things up.

There's other new stuff, such as a Trivia Question for points which is found in the points section, but these are all things you can find by surfing through the site.
I'll make another update tomorrow about what's happening in Will's life or something, but I'll just add into this update that Dianna's new site - DiannaChou.com has also launched recently, so you can go there either from the links page, or by just going to DiannaChou.com. Anyhow, I'm off to bed, have fun with the site!

Oh and for those of you trying to get points (since they're so useful) now would be a prime time to get points for errors, since it's all new and such.
Godspeed.
